Carrom is a family of tabletop games sharing a similarity in that their mechanics lie somewhere between billiards and table shuffleboard.
I saw this game being played during an episode of NBC's Outsourced.
Does anyone here have experience playing it? It looked pretty fun, but all the boards I'm finding online are $100 or more.

I'm not really sure of the game's specifics, but it looks like a lot of fun (and perhaps a good drinking game).
You're basically flicking a striker into the other checkers across the smooth, wooden board and into corner pockets.

Any know of local (Baton Rouge) places to either try the game out or to buy a board?

Holy crap! My grandparents had that game, and I grew up playing it. It was awesome! Thanks for the memories!
They also had small pool-sticks you could use instead of flicking it.

I actually hadn't ever seen one until the show.
The type audodger is talking about is apparently the Americanized version of the game that often uses mini pool cues and has the board designed to play other games like checkers or chess.
I think the flicking method looks a bit more fun than the US version though.
I e-mailed the LSU Indian Student Association to see if any of those guys play or have a board, but I haven't heard back yet.

In the American version you can flick it or use the cue stick. The middle of the one I played with was like the one he posted on one side and like the one I linked on the other. I think we usually flicked it, but I don't remember that well. It has been close to 15 years since I played it.
